I learned a lot from this book. Pippin was from my part of the country. He grew up loving art and finding his own perfect way to capture the world around him. Then he went off to war and sustained an injury that could have ended his life as an artist. Despite his inability to lift his right arm, he figured out how to continue expressing himself and his view of the world, by using his left arm to help his right.
The illustrations in the book are amazing. Sweet obviously took a great interest in her subject and honored Pippin's life and art. Bryant not only wrote a biography to bring Horace Pippin, his life, his strength and his art to children, she made it so that anyone lucky enough to stumble upon this book will want to learn more about this amazing man.
This book is impressive in its scope and its beauty. I'm sure it didn't hurt that they wrote about such an amazing subject. For anyone in the Philadelphia, PA area, Pippin's works are part of the Barnes Foundation art collection.

I swoon at the cover art. This sounds like such an amazing story, so inspiring!
I definitely recommend this book. The cover is nothing compared to the artwork inside. Beautiful in its own right and a testament to the artist. Actually, to both artists.
